Here’s a fantastic project for all of you hardcore Macintosh fans. This DIYer installed a Mac emulator on a Raspberry Pi, added an LCD screen, and placed the entire assembly inside a custom PVC case. The results look stunningly authentic. The best part is that the entire device is 100% fully functional and can run anything from MacPaint to the flying toaster screensaver.
Above is the inside of the device with the Raspberry Pi on the left, a USB hub on the right, USB power input in the center, and the LCD screen in the back. The 3.5 inch display has a retro-tastic resolution of just 300×200 pixels! The device supports a bluetooth mouse a keyboard, HDMI out, and ethernet. And, ironically enough, it’s far more powerful than the original Macintosh.
We think Steve Jobs would approve (Woz too). Overall, the entire project involves very minimal soldering – Majority of the work lies within building the custom enclosure and modifying parts to fit. For example, to stuff everything into the tiny enclosure, the creator had to sand of a few millimeters off of the Raspberry Pi’s SD card.
